July, 1988.
My mom and dad already had two kiddos. (My brother, Jeff - almost 10, and my sister, Leigh - almost 8.)
They would soon have a newborn baby boy!
Wait... BOY?! That's right. They were absolutely convinced I would be a boy. Apparently with legs that kicked my mom that hard, they just assumed I was going to be a big, strong boy! I've been told they called me "Max" throughout her pregnancy. But, they eventually decided on the name "Taylor August". (August is a family name.)
July 21st, 12:16am. My mom gives birth to her third child, a beautiful baby... GIRRRRRRL!
Woooooohooooooo! How exciting!
"Wait! What the HECK are we going to name her?! We only had a boy name picked out!"
Side note: If I had been given the opportunity, as a newborn, I would have said "Hey! Mom and dad! Taylor is a girl name, too..." But, ya know, I couldn't quite form sentences yet.
Anyway. I guess my brother had his school's phone book with him, so my parents started looking through it for ideas. And they came across "Kacey". My middle name, Kathleen, is my mom's name. Keepin' it in the fam, you know.
It's not a fancy, beautiful or meaningful story... however, I find it hilarious. And I swear, this is the way things always work in our family. We're always "flying by the seat of our pants" and I wouldn't have it any other way. :)
I absolutely love my name. I've only met one other Kacey who spells it the same way I do. It's unique, spunky, fun and different. That's me! ;)
Thanks for reading, much love,
- Kacey Kathleen
