When planning our wedding, which as you'll see - my mom helped me through immensely, everyone kept asking what our "theme" was. Well, I knew I wanted my bridesmaids to wear mauve dresses. Buuuut, that's not a theme. I just know what I like, and I used what I like throughout every single detail of our decor. I wanted people to show up the day of our wedding and say "Oh, this is SO Kacey!" And, people did. :) I absolutely LOVED hearing those compliments from our guests! It literally made me giddy.
Anyway, if I had to peg a theme for our whole wedding day, it would be something akin to whimsical, shabby-chic, and even antique. I'll let you decide for yourselves...
The church we got married in actually has the biggest sanctuary in Omaha, so needless to say, it's already very ornate. So, in decorating the church, we didn't feel it was necessary to go overboard at all. We decorated just a few of the pews with white tulle tied with a mauve silk ribbon and finished with baby's breath in the middle. Sweet, soft and girly.
My mom had two of these giant, slightly transparent, vases already, I think they were actually from Walmart. Walmart for the win? Now, that's a first. Our florist - Sharon Davis with Buds and Buttons - created these beautiful arrangements, and we put one vase on either side of the alter on the railings.
There's kind of a lot going on here, so it's hard to appreciate everything, especially with the busy background. But! I hope you notice the white tree back there. We ended up doing two trees, and they were sort of like a piece de resistance. I'm not sure why, but I ended up with this vision of white trees decorated in gold. So, we made my vision come to life! My dad found us two dead trees from their backyard, and we plastered them with Plaster of Paris into buckets. Then, we spray painted them white and dripped them with sparkly gold ornaments from Hobby Lobby. (We bought them after Christmas, so as you can imagine, they were all very cheap!) We had the other tree at the reception hall, and decorated that one with tissue paper puffs that my mother-in-law had made for my bridal shower. Who says you can reuse decor?! Between the ceremony and the reception, my awesome dad transported this tree to the reception hall. So, two trees framed the stage on the dance floor at the reception. They turned out pretty awesome!
Did I mention our florist does RIDICULOUS chalkboards, also?! Before we met her, I had been planning on doing these myself. Sooooo glad I didn't end up doing that. They would have been a hot mess compared to this!
We had 35 tables at our reception, and we had 2 different centerpiece styles going on. About 20 of the tables had 3 gold spray-painted wine bottles with arrangements of hydrangeas, baby's breath and greenery. If you're wondering where we got a hold of 60 wine bottles, welllllllllll... Let's just say I had saved a few over the years. I had actually displayed them on top of my kitchen cabinets at my apartment. After living there for 5 years, I accumulated just a few. ;)
For the other 15 tables, we rented these "Eiffel Tower" vases that - if I remember correctly - were 36 inches tall. Our florist created some awesome arrangements for these as well. The reception hall has extremely high ceilings, so we knew we needed some of the centerpieces to have height to them, in order to fill the giant space.
Our head table! Our florist also made this banner. We bought those lanterns from Pier 1 (by the way, they almost always have a discount code online!) and used more tissue paper puffs. Have I mentioned how obsessed I was with our table cloths?! At first, I thought they'd be too much. But I am so incredibly happy we went through with them! Perfect for our whimsical feel. ;)
Some photos of the tree with the puffs that I mentioned earlier.
This is actually the bird cage we used for cards for my sister's wedding 11 years ago! My mom decorated it with some of her magical handmade flowers and this adorable bird. :)
We moved the guest book table setup over to the reception hall. Because, ya know, some people like to show up just for the party. Can ya blame them?! ;)
Did I mention my mom MADE our guest book?! I will have to take up close photos of that at some point. It is incredibly precious.
Clearly, I'm not convinced our wedding is actually over yet. I love reminiscing over photos. And I thought some of you might enjoy some explanation of our decor! I actually posted a YouTube video with video clips of the day we got to set up the reception hall (Friday before the wedding), so I'll include that here also. :)
Happy HUMP day!
