Well, well, well. I have a husband! Can you believe it?! One year later and I still get butterflies when the word "husband" comes out of my mouth. One whole, entire, fantastic, wonderful, whirlwind of a year. And, I have to say, marriage is much different than I thought it would be...
It's better.
I'm going to try to sum up what marriage is about. For us, anyway.
It's about having a forever best friend that you get to live with, tell your secrets to, plan the future with and take on life headfirst with. It's about supporting each other no matter what crazy ideas both of you try to come up with. It's about having each others' backs during the tough times, and the not-so-tough times, as well. It's about the simple things - like kissing each other goodbye every morning, sometimes having just eggs and toast for dinner (ok, LOTS of times...), going on Sunday walks and tackling the endless amounts of yard work together. But, it's also about the much bigger things, like finding out each others' strengths, weaknesses and love languages, acting as partners in every aspect of your marriage and treating each other with respect all.the.time.
This year has been so incredible, that it's difficult to put it into words. I cried writing all of that just now. I love my husband more than I ever imagined I could love someone else. He is my rock, my partner-in-crime and my biggest supporter in everything I do. I sure lucked out. :)
Enough gushy stuff, now it's time to relive this past year...via an absurd amount of photos. (Don't say I didn't warn you!)
So, we got MARRIED!
And cheers'd the cake! Because we're dorks like that.
We drank fancy champagne on our honeymoon in Jamaica...
And Drew took this tremendously attractive photo of me braiding my hair. (A very typical occurrence.)
We went snorkeling!
And made some awesome friends from Omaha. :) WHAT are the chances?!
We celebrated the 4th of July...
And also one of my best friend's rehearsal dinner and wedding! We clean up pretty nicely, eh?
We gave our front yard a makeover...
And celebrated birthdays! With delicious dinners and a Bloody Mary or two.
We floated down the Niobrara River and camped with some pretty awesome friends.
Did I mention we put up that tent at midnight? Car headlights were very useful in that situation. :)
We celebrated our first Christmas together as husband and wife!
Aaaaand Roxy and Drew cuddled. Boy, did they cuddle!
We went to an outdoor wine tasting event, because - hello, SUMMERTIME! And WINE!
Drew attempted to teach me how to golf.
I was a part of my sweet friend Sarah's wedding and had a pretty hot date for the evening!
We enjoyed our beautiful Maple tree in the fall...
And didn't really enjoy raking all its damn leaves twice a week. Remember the yard work I mentioned earlier? Yeahhhhh...
We hosted a huge Halloween party! And I made some ridiculous Halloween-themed treats. Because...why the heck not?!
We dressed up as a tooth and the tooth fairy. Because...why the heck not??!!? By the way, this was actually Drew's idea. And he helped me SEW that tooth costume out of pillows! I was so angry and frustrated during most of the process, but I suppose it turned out pretty great. ;)
We tailgated and cheered the Huskers on.
And we celebrated more birthdays!
We got to be a part of our close friends' wedding...
And obviously danced our booties off all night.
We got to tag along with some friends to a Husker game and watch them...lose...while sitting in some fantastic seats.
And we were so cold/unprepared that we used koozies as gloves.
We made a very last minute drive down to Kansas City (with 8 people in one car...) to surprise our friend for his birthday! Friends who are reading this - remember when you left Drew and I at the bar? I'm just glad we can laugh about it now. Ha ha ha haaaaaa. Haaaaaaa. :)
We were lucky enough to celebrate Thanksgiving with both sets of our families.
Cheered the Huskers on s'more.
I held an adorable 3-month old baby at Drew's holiday work party... While he felt unsure about the situation. :)
And my dad took this wonderful candid photo, as per usual...
We rang in the new year with great friends.
Aaaaand Roxy and Drew cuddled. Boy, did they cuddle!
We toured a brewery/distillery as part of our Valentine's Day date!
We "catsat" these goons.
Spedward and Eggar: we love you!
We stood in line for 3 hours, while drinking beer and being ridiculous, all for some fried fish.
(Worth it, by the way!)
We went to anotherrrrrr wedding...
With my childhood/high school best friend and her boyfriend who we met for the first time!
And, of course, tore up the dance floor like a couple of maniacs.
We celebrated Jesus' resurrection on Easter Sunday.
And we golfed s'more.
We traveled to Arizona for our close friends' wedding!
And played TOP GOLF!
And had the BEST.time.EVER!
Like, seriously, ever. Such a beautiful wedding and an amazing trip. Let's go back!!!
And got photographed with our good looking group of friends.
We went to three bridal/wedding showers in ONE weekend! Not kidding... :)
And I was sneaky/weird with car selfies. Standard.
More selfies in the car. And morrrrrre weddings.
We're so beautiful! Right?
But on another mushy gushy note - I definitely got emotional at this wedding... First of all, because I have known the bride since she was a baby. Second of all, because they had their reception the same place we had ours! So sweet.
We played frisbee in the park and got labeled "relationship goals" by a group of 13-year-old boys.
We traveled to St. Louis for a cousin's wedding with Drew's little brother and his new fiance! It was so lovely. And Drew looked happy to take a photo with me - as always! :)
AND, as the live band was cleaning up and clearing out, they had background music on, and the last song they played was "Then" by Brad Paisley... AKA: the song we had our first dance to as husband and wife at our wedding. You better believe we were the last ones on the dance floor dancing to it. And, you guessed it - I cried.
One ticket for the Hot Mess Express over here! ;)
If you made it through this entire post, I am extremely proud. Thanks for sticking with me!
It has been the most incredible year, with the most wonderful man I could have ever imagined. I love you so very much, Drew! Here's to a lifetime of years to come!
